Tampa Bay is currently dead last in the East, so they have no reason to make this trade unless there's an extension in place. And if the Blues trade Shattenkirk it's because they're acknowledging that they probably can't win this season, so it also makes no sense without an extension for Bishop.

In short, this trade makes no sense.

As one of my friends told me over the weekend. No number one goalies are going to be traded until after the expansion draft. No point in having this discussion.

Given how bad the east is, I doubt yzerman is ready to pack it in.

Yzerman traded St. louis for Callahan in a trade that could have easily been shot down as a rumor.

I actually think this one could go down.

What is Shattenkirk going to demand with an extension?
McKenzie think 7x7 for $49 million deal

Tampa can't afford him.

STL can get more for Shattenkirk then Bishop

Bishop hasn't even looked that great and is oft injured.

Why move Shatty for another rental when you can get assets for him? You're basically giving him away with nothing in return for future years, just like Backes & brouwer. No deal

While that is factually true, they are still only 5pts behind the last wildcard spot. I know teams to jump over blah blah blah but look at the amount of teams that have have massive winning streaks this season. Bolts win 8 in a row and they are right in the mix. Without the Flyers win steak they would be sitting last in the East.

"The Lightning have all the pieces in place to make a Cup run, but need more scoring from their D and have given the goaltending reigns to Andrei Vasilevskiy. Shattenkirk immediately makes their power play formidable...."

this is funny because the sabres have the same number of points as the bolts in 2 less games

and the sabres are not close to a cup run

Do the Sabres have a Steven Stamkos talent returning for the playoff push?

While its been pointed out that Tampa cant afford an extended Shatty. Tampa has to move more players anyways simply because they cant afford the roster they have very very soon. This is a trade that can have some merit and grow into a bigger trade between the two teams. Or even open the door for a multi team trade. In any case Tampa would have to give up much more than Bishop anyways.

Only played one game last year in the playoffs.

Career Playoffs
49 Games 15 Goals 20 Assists 35 Points

Not sure that's invisible.

The Blues are going nowhere this season. They should be open to trading anyone who does not have the numbers 15, 55 or 91 on his back. Doug Armstrong is responsible for this dumpster fire of a season and should be fired ASAP.

This trade doesn't do Jack Daniels for either team. Bishop is a UFA, Blues need a hella lot more than him to take down a Wild team, or even the Hawks. Lightning are trading Bish for a UFA as well and TBL has been awful this season. Both teams IMO need to re-tool in the Summer.
